Parallella rum is a reflection upon the cultural heritage of Ulleråker mental hospital, an artistic expression of place. The constructive craft becomes a method, creating a contemplative sculpture. One can visit Parallella rum to sit down for a while on one of the benches and reflect upon the passing of time. We generally consider three dimensions: length, width and height. With Parallella rum, the artist adds a fourth dimension – time.
Stone from other mountain is an artistic research project about using glass to recreate semi-precious stones. Liu Chien Kuang layers different shades of colored glass on top of transparent glass to create depth in the stone. He also designed a 3D-printed unique “wooden stand” for each glass stone to stand on. Glass and digital technology act as mediums to connect historical artifacts and contemporary craft.
In the TEX-TILES project, waste from the interior design industry is upcycled through shibori technique – a way of patterning textiles in a dyeing process. Smaller pieces of fabric are used in a form of textile “tiles” which, depending on how they are joined together, form different patterns. The final products are intended for interiors, as decorations on a wall, draperies, curtains or coffin quilts; as sound absorbers/room dividers in public environments; or as blankets and pillows in the home.
